Kudos & Kindness: Thankful for community support in honor of my son
The Smith family would like to thank everyone for joining us in the “Four Year Celebration of Life for Sgt. Timothy Michael Smith” and honoring and remembering our loving Timmy on April 7 at Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort and American Legion Post 795.
A very special thank you to John Rice, manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe, who, once again, out of the kindness and thoughfulness ofhis heart, allowed our family and Timmy’s close friends to remember and honor Timmy’s memory up at Sierra, where there is a special place where his plaque was placed three years ago by Mike Shreve and my son Tommy, and for donating the complimentary lift tickets and ski passes.
I would also like to thank Cyndee Gatien and Matt Ring andthe wonderful staff of Sierra at Tahoe for arranging this special day for the fourth anniversary of Timmy, who sacrificed his life on April 7, 2008, in Baghdad, Iraq. Timmy loved snowboarding and skiing at Sierra, that is where you would find him on every weekend while growing up in Tahoe.
Once again, Cyndee and Matt have done such a beautiful thing for our family and have gone above and beyond to make this hard day we face every year into a very loving and special celebration.
Thank you, Mike Shreve, once again for sharing this very hard yet special day with our family and the beautiful words you spoke and for the lovely prayer, as you always have the right things to say.
Thank you Davin for the beautiful song you sang, “American Hero” and for coming up and sharing our special day with us again.
Thank you to the American Legion for honoring my son and reminding all of us of all the sacrafices so many have made for our country. And are still fighting for our freedom everyday. And for all of our veterans who are still with us and the ones who have served, the ones who have given all and gone up to heaven and our MIA and POW soldiers. Freedom isn’t Free.
Thank you to my good friend Mary Farnsworth, who always is there for me to help with the celebrations. Thank you Davin and the Cash Only Band for playing in honor of my son. Thank you John and Blair, Tom Davis and all the Veteran’s of the American Legion and Mike and Lisa Herron and and the “Brotherhood. Kenny Curtzwhiler for sharing with us at Sierra and remembering our sons.
Thank you to Our SLT Police Department, SLT Fire Department and SLT Sherriff Department for coming and honoring my son.
Thank you Wendy from PraxAir for helping with the helium so we could honor Timmy with the balloon release and sending his balloons up to heaven to him. Thank you Enchanted Florist for the beautiful flower arrangement and Safeway for the beautiful bouquet for Timmy’s memorial on Highway 50, and to my friend at Raleys, who always makes the most beautiful cakes. And finally, but most of all, to our loving friends and our caring community. Without all of you in our lives, it would be much harder. There are not enough words to express the love and appreciation our family can say, but we love all of you so much.
I know my son was so proud to be in the U.S. Army as he had wanted to protect his country and his family and friends. My son is the most amazing and compassionate, carring and loving person I know and I am so proud to be his mom. Yet I love and miss him everyday, and yes if I could change things I would, but I always stood in front and backed him in his choice he made. Timmy will never be forgotten and I will support our troops forever and pray they come home safe and soon. I love you and miss you my son.
Love, Mom and the Smith family
