Kudos: Teacher channeled daughter’s energy into college-bound student

To the editor:

My daughter has been a student in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District since 1991. She is about to graduate from South Tahoe High School and plans to attend either the University of California, San Diego or University of California, Los Angeles this fall.

Though my daughter has had many fine teachers over the past 10 years there is one teacher in particular I would like to acknowledge. Her name is Ivone Larson and she is the Advanced Via Individual Determination instructor at STHS. I cannot say enough about Mrs. Larson and her program. If you or your children ever have the opportunity to be part of the unique program I strongly recommend it.

My daughter is not what you would refer to as a “gifted student.” She is, however, a determined hard worker. Ivone recognized and channeled my daughter’s energies and Sid’s accomplishments are a testimony to Ivone’s spirit and dedication. Too often teachers go unappreciated. Ivone, I can assure you Sid will never forget you. My sincere thanks.
