Ladies’ Guild awards scholarships

The Ladies’ Guild at Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church recently awarded $1,500 in scholarships to Casey Conroy and Brett Schussel. The amount was matched by Steve Connell and his wife, Gracie, in memory of his parents, George and Evelyn Connell, making a total of $1,500 received by each student.

Steve and Gracie Connell reside at Skyland, Nev., and are members of Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church, where Gracie is director of religious education.

Conroy, a 2002 graduate of South Tahoe High School, is the daughter of Jay and JoJo Conroy of South Lake Tahoe. She expresses her creative talents in dance and musical productions and was on the soccer team for four years. She plans to attend the University of California, Berkeley to major in communications.

Schussel graduated from George Whittell High School in 2002. He is the son of Larry and Vicki Schussel of Stateline, Nev. He intends to attend Azusa Pacific University, a Christian college in Southern California to study to be a teacher of physical therapist. He plans to try out for the baseball team and maybe join a band on campus.

The students were selected for the scholarships based on their academic achievements, community activities and involvement in their churches.
