Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition releases online map of plowed bike trails
The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has released a new online bike map showing the region’s regularly snow-plowed bike trails.
People searching for a plowed bike route can now toggle a special seasonal layer in the nonprofit’s interactive bike map, available at tahoebike.org/map.
Many of Tahoe’s local jurisdiction clear snow from their shared-use paths, typically after they have completed plowing local roads, according to the coalition.
“We’re grateful that so many of Tahoe’s jurisdictions have made it their policy to provide safe bike routes year round,” Gavin Feiger, president of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, said in a press release. “So many community members and visitors now bike throughout the year, even in the winter, and we wanted to provide this map as a tool to help them connect to these plowed paths.”
The information on the map is not real-time data. Rather, it is a list of the paths each jurisdiction intends to plow during snow events.
The online map is one of the coalition’s projects intended to make Tahoe more bicycle friendly. The all-volunteer nonprofit also produces a free printed bike map, which is available at bike shops and visitor centers throughout the region.
