A comedian for all seasons is Allan Havey, who’s here May 8-12 over at The Improv.

Allan has been doing more acting than comedy these past few years, so you don’t want to miss a chance to see him performing live.

Ever since he appeared on AMC’s “Mad Men” his acting has been virtually non-stop. He’s currently on the Showtime series, “Billions” playing the role of Karl Allred. What started out as occasional scenes here and there has turned into regular appearances on the popular cable series. Havey has also been on, “Love,” Louis C.K.’s show, “Louie,” Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” on HBO, “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” Comedy Central, NBC’s “The Office” and appearances on Ashton Kutcher’s reality-based television show, “Punk’d.”

Movies include the Coen Brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!,” 2014’s “Top Five” (written, directed and starring Chris Rock), “Hancock” starring Will Smith, “The Informant!” with Matt Damon, “Internal Affairs” with Richard Gere and Andy Garcia, “Checking Out” with Jeff Daniels, “Rounders” (again with Matt Damon), “Wild Things Part 2: The Glades” with Isaiah Washington and “Pilot.”

We used to do a movie show on radio with “The Have vs. The Nave” when Allan has his own online radio show on the then comedyworld.com (which was the predecessor to the modern day podcast). Years later when I had my own radio show we started “Howiewood & Haveywood” expanding it to all things entertainment related.

As much as Allan loves acting and doing stand up in clubs and theaters all over the country, if you ask him what his most rewarding accomplishment has been he’ll tell you it was performing overseas entertaining our troops in the Middle East.

The Improv at Harveys takes place Wednesdays through Sundays at 9 p.m. Learn more at http://www.harveystahoe.com.

Nelson at The Carson Comedy Club

If you prefer your comedy on the clean side then I suggest Travis Nelson, who is at the Carson Comedy Club inside the Carson Nugget May 10 and 11.

Travis is an extremely tall and charismatic comic originating from the small logging town of Hoquiam, Washington. He is an animal enthusiast with a degree in biochemistry and a lifelong passion for comedy and literature.

Travis performs all over the United States and can be seen at such comedy institutions as Zanies, the Funny Bones, Helium and many more. He also tours Canada as a part of the Boob Tour for breast cancer research and various SPCA fundraising events.

Shows at the Carson Comedy Club start at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Must be 21 or older.

Lowell at The Loft

One of the most consistent entertainers out there is comedian/magician Chipper Lowell.

I first met him when he had a one-man show at the Horizon Casino (now the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino). Chipper’s been on the road since he was 5. His folks traveled the country doing the circus circuit performing coast to coast, so Chipper learned the ropes about showbiz while other kids his age were playing in the sandbox.

His father was a professional clown and stage actor while his mom performed as an “iron jaw” act hanging by her teeth high above the cheering crowds below. The family was very popular and in-demand. They performed in Canada, Mexico, England, Australia, New Zealand and all over this country as well. Talk about a unique home schooling program, huh?

Chipper is not only a very talented performer but also a smart businessman too. In addition to flying solo with his own act Chipper created his own production company called “BLiNK! – An Evening of Award-Winning Comedy, Magic & Illusion!” where he assembles some of the most popular magicians and an odd assortment of novelty acts. They have wowed audiences across the United States for years.

Chipper has also appeared on television, in national commercials and has racked up an impressive list of awards.

And for the next week you can see Chip at The Loft Tahoe over at The Heavenly Village.

Magic Fusion at The Loft takes place at 7 p.m. each day, with 9 p.m. performances on Thursdays and Saturdays. Learn more at thelofttahoe.com.
