Lake Tahoe comedy scene with Howie Nave: Sarah Tiana at the Improv; Gabriel Rutledge at the Carson City Comedy Club
Special to Lake Tahoe Action
I think this is comedian Sarah Tiana’s second time up here.
OK, maybe third … so much has transpired since her last appearance. She’s got a new Comedy Central special that just came out, a show on Yahoo called “Props” about prop bets (the Twitter handle is @2debate2furious) and a podcast with comedian/actor Rob Riggle called “Riggles Picks.”
Sarah also is writing for fellow comedian Theo Vonn for her new Comedy Central pilot called, “Man Up” and in the middle of a comedy tour with WWE superstar Dolph Ziggler. I’m exhausted already.
Originally from Calhoun, Georgia, Tiana’s act emphasizes the thrills of growing up after “The War Of Northern Aggression” and trying to survive in the current battle of the sexes. Her big break came after she was recognized for her breakout performance as Carmen in four episodes of “Reno 911!” during its seventh season.
In 2005 she helped create a sketch comedy company called The Strait Jacket Society as a way to help young actors in Hollywood accelerate their stage time and gain exposure while still having fun (she has currently put over 500 actors through the program).
Tiana has done over 10 tours overseas entertaining our troops in Germany, Singapore, Afghanistan, Guam, Okinawa and at several Wounded Warrior facilities. A trip to Iraq at the beginning of the war is highlighted in the documentary film “We Love You, Mrs. Bevins.”
Sarah has written and starred in two seasons of Comedy Central’s “The Burn with Jeff Ross” and was a correspondent on “The Soup Investigates.” Back in the day she was a regular on the “Chelsea Lately” roundtable and an avid sports fan. She wrote for the ESPY Awards and the Rob Riggle NFL segments on FOX (a personal fave).
In her bio she says you can see her at the world famous Comedy Store, on Twitter and in numerous unhealthy relationships near Los Angeles. That cracked me up immensely.

Rutledge at The Carson Comedy Club
Comedian Gabriel Rutledge is another soul worth checking out. He won both the Seattle International Comedy Competition and The Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta.
Gabriel has made television appearances on Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham,” Nickelodeon’s “Nickmom Night Out,” “Laughs” on FOX and the nationally syndicated “Comedy.tv” and “Comics Unleashed.”
He’s performed at the HBO/TBS Comedy Festival in Las Vegas, the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland and the Great American Comedy Festival held in Johnny Carson’s home town of Norfolk, Nebraska (but did he get sign the wall out there?).
Gabriel has released three albums that can be heard on Sirius Satellite Radio, 24/7 Comedy Radio, and wherever you want if you buy one. He’s also the author of the book, “Happiness Isn’t Funny.”
You can see him Jan. 11 and 12 at the Carson Comedy Club inside the Carson Nugget.
Shows at the Carson Comedy Club start at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Must be 21 or older.
