Lake Tahoe gears up for Blue Avenue Block Party

Say what you will, but Tahoe knows how to throw a block party.

Motocross daredevils, beauty contestants and the music of Code Red highlight the inaugural Blue Avenue Block Party on Highway 50 at Stateline on Saturday, June 16. The party, featuring two stages with action-packed entertainment from noon to 5 p.m., is all in celebration of the third annual Opening Day Lake Tahoe, which officially kicks off the Summer Season at South Shore.

Among the entertainment highlights re the Xtremely Amped Freestyle Moto-X Rock Show, the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Northern Nevada State Finals, the Geocaching High-Tech Treasure Hunt, Harley & Hot Rod displays, street performers, food vendors, live entertainment, a paddlewheeler race … and that’s just during the day.



On the Hawaiian Tropic Stage festivities begin Saturday with reggae sounds of Zion Roots from noon to 2 p.m. The Silver Boom Box Thief’s B Boy Exhibitions will continue rocking the streets from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Following will be the first round of the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Northern Nevada State Finals.

In the evening, THE BLOCK hotel will hold a free hip-hop show in their parking lot from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring Code Red. The show is open to the public and includes a free barbecue. Information: (530) 544-2936.



Headliner entertainment for the weekend includes Jewel’s special performance on Saturday, June 16, at the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa. Lindsey Buckingham will perform on Saturday, June 16, in the South Shore Room at Harrah’s. Last but not least, Sammy Hagar & The Wabos, rock and roll band and Cabo Wabo’s night club owner, will heat up the night with the first show of the Harveys Outdoor Summer Concert Series on Sunday, June 17.
