Lake Tahoe Golf Course is a keeper

The Upper Truckee River restoration project at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course is a good project. I support the river restoration with or without any golf course.

That being said I can not ignore the fact that revenues from the golf course keep other state parks open. The recreational experience at the golf course is also superb and can’t be ignored.

I would hinge approval of any golf course on the premise that the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency require the golf course establish an innovative fertilizer prescription. This would require drastically reducing the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium used to maintain the course. This is a place where Tahoe can and should lead.

Think of the impact of leading the nation with a more environmental golf course management design through innovative watering, use of mycorrhizal applications, and proper construction techniques.

I urge a low fertilizer alternative be mandatory for every golf course in the Tahoe Basin.
