Lake Tahoe seven scale African peak

Tahoe Daily Tribune Staff Reports

Seven local climbers who planned to scale the highest peak in Africa on the 19-day trip made it to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro on Monday, trip organizer Joe Wagner’s secretary reported Tuesday.

They include: Joe and Fay Wagner; David Berne, Jane and Guy Ellis; Dianne Salzenstein and Debra West.

The group made the ascent on behalf of Sierra Recovery Center, a South Lake Tahoe nonprofit dedicated to substance abuse treatment and support.

Mt. Kilimanjaro rises to 19,340 feet and is Africa’s highest peak.
