Lake Tahoe weather: Several feet of snow possible at Lake Tahoe this week

A winter storm expected to arrive in the region Tuesday night could bring several feet of snow to Lake Tahoe over the course of a couple days.

Light snow showers are possible Monday, with accumulation of less than 1 inch possible, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. High temperatures will reach 36 degrees in South Lake Tahoe and 33 in Incline Village.

Occasional snow showers are expected to continue Tuesday before becoming a widespread storm Tuesday night, according to the weather service. Down to 6,000 feet there could be up to 2 feet of snow through Thursday night.

“The snow will be heavy at times, especially Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. The snow may briefly change to rain below 6500 feet Thursday morning before changing back to snow.”

The storm also will bring strong winds Wednesday and Thursday, with ridge gusts of 60-80 mph Wednesday before increasing to over than 100 mph Thursday.

Chances of rain and snow will persist Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service.
