Lakers dominate TBL slalom races

It was North Tahoe’s day in a Tahoe Basin League slalom race Tuesday at Alpine Meadows

North Tahoe ran away with first place for the girls as they seized the top-five finishing spots. North Tahoe also dominated the top-five slots in the boys’ slalom race, with Zach Richenbach leading the way.

The Lakers were led by Jessica Tidd’s combined slalom time of 1 minute, 19.73 seconds. Tenaya Driller was second, Maddie Johnson third, Nikki Caravelli fourth and Kelsey Wittles fifth as North Tahoe compiled 218 points.

Madison Bowman was South Tahoe’s top female performer, finishing seventh in 1:30.79 as the second-place Vikings tallied 185 points. The Vikings’ Katie Sears was 10th, Melissa Smith 12th, Danica Bunnett 14th and Kailey Killeen 16th.

Richenbach’s first-place time over the two boys’ slalom runs was 1:09.74.

South Tahoe’s Mikey Suglian, last season’s TBL most valuable skier, clocked in at 1:12.45 for second place. North Tahoe’s trio of Sal Monforte, Nico Monforte and Garrett Driller finished third through fifth, helping the Lakers to a total of 215 points. South Tahoe was second with 199 points.

The Vikings packed together three racers in the bottom of the top 10: Luca Genasci was eighth, Justin Smaine ninth and Connor McKeen 10th.

Whittell’s Hughston Norton, who won the previous TBL race at Kirkwood, placed 12th as the Warriors finished fifth as a team. The Warriors’ Kody Dangtongdee finished 17th, Avery Laub 31st and Jess Latta 37th.

In the boys’ junior varsity race, South Tahoe’s Tyler Cottrill emerged the winner with a combined time of 1:26.61. South Tahoe’s Jake Krazczek was third, Garrett Singer fourth, Tanner McAvoy sixth, Joe Zanatell eighth and Luke Daum 10th.

Next up for the TBL teams is a Jan. 26 event at Sierra-at-Tahoe.
