North Tahoe accomplished something Friday night that has eluded the Lakers in Northern 2A League boys’ basketball play: win.

The Lakers overcame foul trouble and a thin bench to defeat Whittell 55-51 and ruin the Warriors’ senior night in Zephyr Cove. North Tahoe finished 1-11 in league play, only one game behind Whittell (2-10) for the final berth in next week’s regional tournament in Reno.

Whittell will play either Battle Mountain, Rite of Passage or Lovelock in the opening-round tournament game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wooster High School.

The Lakers, who only brought seven players to the game, avenged a 66-51 loss to Whittell on Wednesday in Dollar Hill.

North Tahoe took a 24-23 halftime lead behind the hot shooting of guard Trevor Trimm. Trimm canned three trifectas and finished with 11 first-half points. Michael Conn scored eight first-half points, including a shot from beyond the arc.

The Lakers were whistled with 12 fouls in the opening 16 minutes, with Trimm and Matt Walther each saddled with three.
