Leona Merrill

Per her request no services will be held for Leona V. Merrill, 84, who passed away Sept. 2, 2006, at her home in South Lake Tahoe.

She was born Leona Virginia Christiansen April 6, 1922, in Sioux City, Iowa, and moved to California as a young girl. Leona graduated from Palo Alto High School, attended college in San Jose, Calif., and design school in San Jose. She married her husband of 58 years, Frank S. Merrill, in July 1942.

Leona was an avid bowler in her younger years and loved golf and traveling with Frank in their motorhome later in life. She was part owner with her husband of Scotty’s Hardware in the late 1960s, partner in the Hill Hanger, a member of the South Lake Tahoe Boat Club and charter member of Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.



She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nina and Paul Major; grandson, Eric Guthridge, and his wife, Kelly Baker; and many other extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Streeter Merrill; and daughter, Lisa Lynn Merrill.
