Les Miserables part of Toccata’s busy summer
Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will launch into a busy summer with the Summer Solstice Serenade, which runs from June 20-25 and includes Toccata’s first-ever performance in Sacramento. The series is a tribute to the classical and Baroque masters.
The second series of the summer begins on July 5. Toccata will collaborate with local theater group Tahoe Players on the Broadway show “Les Miserables.” The production will be directed by Lily Baran and conducted by maestro James Rawie. The opening show will take place on the Incline Village Green as part of the Red, White and Tahoe Blue celebration. Toccata and Tahoe Players will bring the final performance of “Les Miserables” to Sand Harbor Aug. 19.
Toccata celebrates its 8th anniversary July 7 through July 13. The concert series features Mozart’s “Coronation mass KV 317,” “Variations on Twinkle Little Star,” Saint Saens’ “Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8 in F major.”
The Toccata Summer MusicFest includes several other performers. The NorthStar Chamber Players will perform Aug. 3-6. This group consists of a traditional woodwind quintet and features guest artists Donna Axton, piano, and Anna Helwing, soprano. In addition, organist David Brock will perform his traditional “Hot August Pipes” series on Aug. 13 and 23. Mcavoy Layne returns to the “Scene of the Crime” as Mark Twain on Aug. 9 at the TOCCATA Performing Arts Theater in Incline Village, and Chamber Music at the Theater will be Saturdays Aug. 3, 10 and 17.
Summer MusicFest will conclude with the compelling and solemn 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Elizabeth Pitcairn and the legendary Red Stradivarius violin will join TOCCATA to perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, and the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will present the mighty Mozart Requiem. The concert series runs from Sept. 11-17. Three elegant soiree musicales will take place Sept. 7, 8 and 14 in private homes to raise funds for this series.
All concert series will be performed at venues in Reno, Incline, South Lake and at Resort at Squaw Creek. Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.
