Letter — Abortion law is not clear

I am not questioning a woman’s right to choose. What I am questioning is when that right should end. At what time do abortions become infanticide? When does the fetus become a human being?

Granted, very few women terminate their pregnancy during the last trimester. Even the medical societies enforce regulations prohibiting abortions after (typically) 20 or 21 weeks of pregnancy.

Many states already have state laws prohibiting late term abortions, but many of these state laws are so generally worded that they could be used to ban even first trimester abortions. They are clearly unconstitutional and would not withstand a challenge in court.

The law should be made clear and equal throughout the United States. Please write to your representatives in the house and senate and let them know your feelings on this issue.

For more information, please visit the Web site ReligiousTolerance.org. It is one of the few sites on the Internet that is neither strongly pro-life nor pro-choice. They at least try to objectively present both sides of the issue.
