Letter — Donate blood next Monday
February 17, 2003
On Feb. 24 a blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Branch Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd. I have been a donor since 1993 and I want to take this opportunity to encourage the local community to participate. It is estimated that 40 percent of the U.S. population is medically eligible to give blood, but less than 10 percent of eligible donors actually give.
Though you may never know whose lives you touch by giving blood, you can be certain that you have given them a precious gift — the chance for another tomorrow. Yes, you can save a life! And it really is easy. The volunteers will offer you coffee, juice, cookies and a grateful smile.
Blood donors must be in generally good health, at least 17 years of age or 16 with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit for donating. Allow 45 minutes donation time and eat and drink before donating. All donors must bring a photo ID.
For more information call Pat Amundson at (530) 544-4456, the BloodSource at 1-866-82-Blood or visit the Web site at http://www.bloodsource.org.
Please join me Feb. 24 and bring a friend. I look forward to seeing you there.
