Letter: El Dorado voters should follow funds

To the editor:

By Dec. 31, 1999, candidates Kathi Lishman in District III, Helen Baumann in District II, and Janice Platz in District I had each received $1,500 from political boss Jim Moore and friend Jan Matthews. That’s heavy, and there are two months yet to go to election. In addition, Baumann and Platz have received $2,500 from the Bill Center part of the team, the American River Whitewater, for a grant total of $9,500 from those two sources.

County voters should go to the Elections Department, Building C, for copies of Candidate Statement Form 460, to see who is funding the various county supervisor candidates. Voters should have made this check before electing the new El Dorado Irrigation District Directors.

These are the power brokers behind the political groups that have filed more than 20 lawsuits at an estimated cost of well over $150 million against El Dorado County and El Dorado Irrigation District. Besides the unconscionable act of suing to prevent repair of our water conveyance system damaged by the 1997 floods that has provided one third of our water since 1890, they have sued to stop: The landfill Methane Power Generation; the hydroelectric power Project 184; Cool Village; Wentworth Springs Road improvement; County General Plan; and many similar projects.

At the election last November, these people supported the election of Bergmeister and Vargas to the EID board, and thus we have an EID board that is now attempting to kill the hydroelectric Project 184, and the purchase of Sly Park as well.
