Letter: For our rec needs, vote yes on Prop 12

To the editor:

The California statewide ballot on March 7 includes Proposition 12, sponsored by the state Legislature, which if approved would authorize the sale of $2.1 billion in bonds to fund state, regional and local park projects. I urge everyone to vote yes on this measure.

The last statewide park bond approved by the voters was more than a decade ago. Another is long overdue. Our still beautiful state park system needs facility upgrades and repairs badly. Moreover, sale of these bonds will provide funds for local and regional park amenities that will benefit all of us, while also protecting critical wildlife habitat and open space.

Even those of us who don’t use local and regional parks every day still benefit from the natural beauty the parklands preserve and the opportunities for outdoor recreation that they provide to our families, friends and neighbors. Vote yes on Proposition 12.
