LETTER TO THE EDITOR: An open letter to the City Council

Dear Council members – all of you,

You have approved a $38,000-plus budget for a Lake Tahoe website. You unanimously awarded it to a Kansas company. My question is, why?

Which of your family members or friends reside in Kansas? We will find out.

Living in a town that relies on its locals to make its economy work is not a simple task. I personally own a photography company in which I have at three qualified employees that build websites and could provide local images.

I was also informed that three local companies with less expensive bids were denied. You are going to send local images and articles to Kansas to be published for Lake Tahoe.

As a local business owner and full-time resident, it sickens me to see those who are “governing” our town are not supporting the community and local economy. Please be accountable for your actions and explain the benefit of hiring an out-of-state company with the highest bid. There are so many talented, qualified and out-of-work people in the basin that could or would have done this for a fourth of the cost. I have built several websites myself and the cost is nothing but time and server fees – $38,000 is simply outrageous. Oh, and “it will be ready sometime in 2011.” I could have a site ready in three days. The council should be ashamed for once again denying locals jobs.

Locals, please do the community a favor and vote in November. The future of our town relies on your vote.
