LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Anyone else having issues with the DMV?

This more of a polling question than anything. I recently received a late notice from the DMV for two of my cars. I went in person to the DMV to pay the registration along with the penalty as well as to ask why I hadn’t received the original notice for registration.

Was the problem with the DMV or with the postal service? I was told that it was with the DMV and that the same thing happened with the clerk herself. She consulted with her superior but to no avail, since too much time had elapsed. I received the notice on Nov. 9 and paid on Nov. 14.

Now, not knowing the number of people that this has happened to, the question in my mind is, is this an innocent mistake or a slick way to reduce the state deficit? My penalty on two cars amounted to $136. Seems small, but if you multiply that by just a quarter of the population of the state, it could come to a princely sum.
