LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Construction reflects poorly on economy

As a visitor to Lake Tahoe, I found it very sad to see huge traffic jams all day on Saturday and Sunday on Highway 50 due to road construction.

It used to be that workers were in unions so they didn’t have to work on weekends. Or if they did, they got higher wages, not to mention benefits, which tended to discourage road work on weekends. Now it is common to see roads clogged up on weekends.

This is a bad situation for everyone and the environment as all those cars sit emitting fumes. Yes, I know that governments are strapped for funds and have to cut corners. The Occupy Wall Streeters are right. If politicians weren’t bought and paid for by corporations who hide their huge profits overseas thus evading taxes, maybe things would start working to benefit everyone¬†– the 99 percent – instead of only a handful of CEOs and the like.
