LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Disappointed in McClintock’s stance on the environment

I am disappointed, but not surprised, that Rep. Tom McClintock voted for a bill that would open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling. McClintock seems to care nothing for the environment or the animals that live in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

In order to fund a gap in the transportation bill, shortsighted House leadership is pushing to use revenue from drilling. State revenue sharing would reduce the revenue estimate, quite apart from the fact that if the ANWR was opened up to drilling, no revenue would be seen for at least 10 years.

Sadly, McClintock fell for the “myopic political gimmickry” as the Competitive Enterprise Institute calls this move.

There is still a chance to stop this bill – I hope McClintock will vote against final passage of the Transportation package. It is an environmentally irresponsible bill.
