LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Government not ‘smart’ about jobs and businesses
June 8, 2010
Mr. Ralph Sinibaldi (“Financial reform, smart government needed to protect Americans,” May 30) claims we need “smart” government and financial reform legislation to “protect” the American public.
Apparently he is calling for more of the same “smart government” that has bailed out the auto industry, wasted billions on a so-called stimulus bill and is now preparing to take over the health care industry.
Congress is currently debating the issue of placing strict controls on the financial industry. The Senate and House versions differ, but the clear intent of those supporting the measures is to set aside billions of taxpayer dollars to bail out failing banks and investment firms and give federal bureaucrats new, unprecedented powers to operate those businesses. The net result of that action will be lost jobs and capital as investors flee our shores.
If government has proved anything it has shown it isn’t very “smart” about running businesses and creating jobs.
