Letter to the editor: Hoping the conservationists’ request will be granted

I visit the Tahoe National Forest area often and feel a personal attachment to the area, the forests, and creatures that call those forests home. That’s why I’m so appalled by what I’ve recently read regarding the fate of the black-backed woodpecker chicks in the area scehduled to be logged. As I understand it, conservationists have made a logical request that logging be put on hold, for only two months, in the 60-acre area the chicks need to survive. How can the U.S. Forest Service, with any heart, deny this request? Apparently, this woodpecker’s survival is already greatly threatened. Why would the Forest Service want to make their plight even worse? I’m praying the conservationists’ request will be honored.

Genesis 7:1-3: “Then the Lord said to Noah: ‘Take with you seven pairs of all animals, the male and its mate, and seven pairs of the birds of the air, also, male and female, to keep their kind alive on the face of all the earth.'”
