Letter to the Editor: Murder suspect’s arrest dredges up memories

It is very difficult to celebrate the capture of the ruthless killer of Richard Swanson with the loss of a fine, intelligent, ambitious and good-looking young man whose future was cut short.

It was a sad day in this community when he was discovered, murdered, which made many of us realize the risks that all of us, including the younger generation, face day to day. There was no doubt that this senseless crime was committed by a transient who had been prowling our community looking for an opportunity.

My condolences go out to the family who, once again, have to relive their agony as this case moves forward, in spite of the relief that the killer has finally been found.

I would like to express my sincere “thanks” for all of the law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation and especially to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and specifically the officers directly involved, for their diligence and devotion to justice, that should make this community very proud. The sad part of this story is that a murderer ran free for 32 years.
