LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Please do your homework

This letter is in response to a guest column written by Kim DeVincenzi concerning property rights. Unfortunately Ms. DeVincenzi has not done her homework. The U.S. Codes concerning Riparian Waters are quite specific: Navigational waters below the high water mark is public property. For lands facing Navigational waters the property line is the high water mark.

There are several court decisions affirming the right of public access to all areas below the high water mark, and that such access can neither be denied or hindered. All 50 states have similar codes.

You can go anywhere in the U.S. as long as your feet are in water.
