LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Recycling doesn’t add up
I have a complaint about trying to recycle in this town! Why does the recycling center pay by the pound at a rate that doesn’t come close to the nickel a piece we have to pay at the market? The rate is better for aluminum cans (still not a nickel a piece, though), but instead of paying more for plastic bottles that weigh so little, they just say, “Sorry, those don’t weigh anything.” It’s doubly unfair to redeem plastic bottles by weight since a lot of the companies have come out with thinner walled bottles that weigh about half what the regular ones weigh.
