LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Safe winter parking needed by Camp Richardson

My wife and I live in South Tahoe and enjoy cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the woods and along the lake near the Valhalla estates. We parked at Valhalla until the U.S. Forest Service closed the access road to all public traffic several years ago. Then we parked in the area by Highway 89 just west of the South Tahoe Public Utility Pumping Station, until Caltrans stopped snow plowing the parking lot.

This parking lot provides the only safe place to park off of Highway 89 in the area.

We see areas along Highway 89 were Caltrans does plow beyond the edge of the pavement to allow limited parking, but this is adjacent to the highway.

The parking area on Highway 89 by Camp Richardson/ Valhalla needs to be plowed so residents and visitors can park safely off the highway.

Please contact Caltrans at 530-577-7878 to voice your concerns.
