LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Solution for lost golf balls

I got a chuckle out of Russ Wright’s letter regarding the golf balls in the Upper Truckee River. When I was a teen, and when my kids were teens, we made special float trips down that river in search of the elusive golf ball. We would regularly collect a bucket full every time we went down the river. There is no doubt that they are common and you can find them all the way down to Blue Lakes drive. These recovered balls were put in play again by friends and family on a regular basis. I have no doubt that there were others doing the same hunt. Any man-made ball collector would no doubt obstruct the ability of the local fish to move up and down the river. I doubt if the balls (other than their visual pollution) affect the river. So do what I do: bring a small fishing net on your next float and clean them up as you go.
