Lewis and Margaret ‘Jan’ Rickards

Provided to the Tahoe Daily Tribune. Lewis and Margaret "Jan" Rickards.

Lewis Rickards, 92, and Margaret “Jan” Rickards, 91, died June 10 and July 1, 2006, respectively. It is fitting that they both passed within weeks of each other, as their lives were closely intertwined for more than 70 years.

Both were raised in Kansas, where they met and were married in 1935. They had five sons: Robert (Bobby); twins Jean (Blondie) and Dean (Blackie); William (Billy); and Raymond (Butch). They raised their children primarily in southern California, where they both spent many years working for Douglas Aircraft. After retirement they moved to South Lake Tahoe, where Jan worked for the school district and Lewis was a building inspector for South Lake Tahoe. They enjoyed many happy years at Lake Tahoe, with their sons, daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren visiting them often. They moved to Minden, Nev., in 1993, where they lived with their dog, Penny.

They are survived by Lewis’ brother, Dale, and his wife Dee; sons, Robert and his wife Jane, Raymond and his wife Gail, and William; grandchildren, Teri, LeAnn, Dan, Wendy, Shannae, Jennifer, Tony and Tom; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m. at FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home, Highway 395 in Gardnerville, Nev. FitzHenry’s is in charge of arrangements.
