LIVE DISCUSSION: Avalanche danger

LAKE TAHOE – The mountains around Tahoe are a year-round playground, but those going out in the winter need to be aware of a potentially big risk: avalanches.

Whether you’re on skis, a snowboard, snowshoes or a snowmobile, knowledge about avalanche danger is your best tool to stay safe in the backcountry.

And even though ski resorts diligently work to reduce the risk of avalanches, people who ride at local resorts would be wise to brush up on avalanche knowledge too.

Read below for a live discussion with experts at the Sierra Avalanche Center including avalanche forecaster Andy Anderson and Brandon Schwartz. Readers can learn about the center, avalanche forecasting and ask questions about traveling in the snow.
