Flowers, gifts, cakes and other treats are common gifts to give to mom on Mother’s Day, but local businesses are making an effort to bring more creative ideas to the table.

Some Tahoe businesses have came up with creative ideas related to the lake, such as Brunch Cruises to Emerald Bay, special drink offers or the new granite vases by local artist Frank Kopita that combine flowers from Enchanted Florist with his artwork.

“We just got them in a few weeks ago and it’s also a nice gift for Father’s Day, since it keeps the masculine looks,” assistant manager and floral designer Richelle Day said.

“We have tons of flowers and definitely carry more than usual right now,” she said. “Mother’s Day and Valentines Day are equally busy. It’s crazy.”

Among the selection of spring bouquets are fresh tulips, lilies, and roses, as well as flowers in various other colors, including lavendar.

“This is one of the big colors this year,” Day said.

Enchanted Florist’s fresh tropical flowers come from their farm in Hilo, Hawaii.

The shop, which is located at 1079 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe, also carries local artist work from Lynn Woodward Wright, who creates paintings, pottery and watercolors.

Mother’s Day bouquets start at $35 plus a delivery fee. The shop will be open on Mother’s Day between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and can be contacted either by phone at 530-544-6840 or online at laketahoeenchantedflorist.com.

Also around the lake, Riva Grill will open its deck for this years Mother’s Day brunch buffet.

“We expect to be very, very busy. So far we have 219 reservations; it is always one of the busiest days of the year,” floor manager Steve Gomez said.

“We will have a ‘Make-Your-Own-Bloody Mary station’ for mothers that day, where we pour vodka into their glasses and they can build the drinks themselves at the station,” he said.

Riva Grill will serve its brunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The MS Dixie II and the Tahoe Queen offer a Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise on Lake Tahoe, which will depart at 10 a.m. from Zephyr Cove and Ski Run Marina and cruise to scenic Emerald Bay. Mothers will be given a rose and carnations as they board the boats.

The cruises cost $39 per person and $15 for children 12 years and under.

The Montbleu Resort Casino & Spa also offers a Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch for $12.95 per adult and $7.95 per child between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Edgewood Tahoe offers a Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch for $39.50 and children for $14.95.
