Seventeen local leaders traveled to Livermore, Monterey and Sacramento last week as part of the Pathways to Prosperity Trek 2012.

The Trek, put on by TahoeChamber, was designed as a basin-wide leadership strategy in which participants visit communities that have face challenges similar to those Tahoe is facing. Livemore and Monterey both faced similar challenges before they implemented tourism and sustainability initiatives, which helped them prosper. Trek members met with various officials who have already tackled some of the same challenges facing Lake Tahoe. Best practices reviewed included transportation, collaborative partnership models, tourism and hospitality, and community visioning and economic development, according to a press release from TahoeChamber.

The Trek is one of many collaborative efforts going on at Lake Tahoe to achieve environmental restoration and community revitalization goals.

“It’s very relevant to see how these communities have turned themselves around through collaborative partnership models of redevelopment because it’s so applicable to Lake Tahoe,” B Gorman, CEO/President of TahoeChamber, stated in the release.
