There wasn’t a shortage of people willing to take to the podium and give testimony to the efforts Joanne Shope has given to several organizations in South Lake Tahoe during an honor ceremony Thursday evening at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Shope sat in front of a group of about 60 who showed their respect and appreciation for her efforts. With a pair of antlers on her head, a purple cape covered in star patterns and a wand in her hand, Shope showed her approval with smiles, hugs and other appreciative gestures.

Shope ran Christmas Cheer All Year for 20 years and was also affiliated with the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Soroptimist International, South Lake Tahoe Cancer League and Women of the Moose, among others.

Several members of the organizations Shope served shared anecdotes, listed her accomplishments, thanked her and presented her with gifts. The comments reflected trends in opinions that described Shope as integral, the backbone and tireless.
