The annual Christmas Giveaway returns for its seventh year on Saturday, Dec. 17. From 3-8 p.m., the public is invited to the parks and recreation department for holiday festivities including free gift giveaways and visits with Santa Claus.

“When people show up, we’ll be giving away toys and clothes, wrapping presents, and Santa Claus will be there for photos. We started collecting donations in the middle of November,” event coordinator Dreda Dre said.

Come grab free new and used items that include clothing, toys, snow gear, sports equipment, electronics and more. All items are given away on a first-come, first-serve basis — the earlier you arrive, the larger the selection will be. Grab warm clothes for the winter, as well as gifts for a loved one at the event.

“A couple hundred people are expected to show up. The event used to be a Thanksgiving giveaway, but we turned it into a Christmas giveaway a few years ago,” Dre said.

The Lake Tahoe Humane Society will also be on-site, giving away dog and cat food.

Volunteers behind the event began collecting donations at The Buttermuffin Smoke Shop on Friday, Nov. 18. Donations were accepted until Thursday, Dec. 15 — two days before the event.

The South Lake Tahoe parks and recreation department is located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.
