Tribune staff report

South Lake Tahoe has drafted a negative environmental impact declaration for its Housing Element Update and is seeking comments on the document.

The housing element is one of seven elements California requires to be part of the city’s general plan. It is meant to serve as a guide for decision making by local city officials.

The elements lays out information about the city’s demographics and housing costs as well as goals and recommended programs to preserve, improve and develop the city’s housing stock and meeting community housing needs.

The environmental evaluation was required as part of the California Environmental Quality Act. It is online at http://www.cityofslt.us/DocumentCenter/View/3669.

The draft Housing Element Update is online at http://www.cityofslt.us/index.aspx?nid=730.
