Coroner continuing to investigate cause of death for Davis man found near Echo Summit
The El Dorado County coroner is investigating the death of a Davis man whose body was found at the bottom of a cliff near Echo Summit.
Search and rescue personnel located the body of 21-year-old Tanner Dixon Dec. 10.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office initially received a report of suspicious circumstances on U.S. 50 near Echo Summit on Dec. 9.
A passerby found a bicycle and personal belongings alongside the road. Responding deputies found footprints in the snow leading from the bicycle toward the edge of the cliff.
An El Dorado Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team used ropes to rappel down the cliff but could not locate a victim. The search was suspended until the following day when they located Dixon, a Davis resident.
Sgt. Anthony Prencipe told the Tribune that the coroner’s investigation is pending a toxicology report, which could take up to a month to complete.
As of Friday, criminal activity was not believed to play a role in Dixon’s death, although that could change depending on the coroner’s investigation, Prencipe said.
