Good Sam Safe Ride’s Class Car Show and Old Car Giveaway this weekend
South Shore-based nonprofit Good Sam Safe Ride concludes its 2017 show season with the South Lake Tahoe Classic Car Show and Old Car Giveaway — and the weekend-long event is free for both participants and attendees.
“It’s a great time to come to Tahoe, with the colors changing and everything. [The show] starts Friday, but Saturday and Sunday are the key days — Saturday we give out 25 trophies, and Sunday we pick the raffle tickets. Then we’re done for the summer, and it’s the end of our season for old cars,” said show coordinator Tom Argo.
This weekend’s show, true to its name, is an appreciation of old, classic automobiles. Car check-in begins at 9 a.m. Friday, and the awards are handed out at 5:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
As part of the organization’s 32nd year, Good Sam Safe Ride will raffle off a 1955 Lincoln Capri two-door hardtop and 1955 Pleasure Craft Canned Ham vintage camping trailer on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m. The price for one ticket is a $10 donation, for three tickets a $20 donation, eight tickets for $50 and 17 for $100. Those entering the raffle need not be present in order to win.
Nine other prizes will also be raffled off on Sunday afternoon.
All proceeds from raffle tickets go to Good Sam Safe Ride, so the nonprofit can pay for free rides home for intoxicated drivers in the Lake Tahoe area. Good Sam Safe Ride began in 1985, and has held multiple car shows each summer to raise money for the program.
The South Lake Tahoe Classic Car Show and Old Car Giveaway is held in the Heavenly Village Shopping Center, located at 1001 Heavenly Village Way.
