Kudos & Kindness: Thanks for making bonfire safe

On behalf of the students, facility, coaches and parents at Whittell High School, we would like to thank our community for stepping up to ensure that the Homecoming Bonfire tradition could continue in a safe environment.

First, thank you, to the field staff at Douglas County Parks and Recreation — Jerry Harrison, Parks Ranger and Scott Morgan, Director for their guidance and permitting support. Second, we appreciate the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, Fire Marshal Eric Guevin and Fire Chief Ben Sharit for a donation of food and for the “fire watch” by the on-duty crew of Captain Rossi, Engineer Crebs, Firefighter/Paramedics Norwood and Robidart and Fire Inspector Stroup.

We want to send a shout out to Matt and Wendy Petty, who donated lights, generator, gasoline, power cords and tools. To Super Dads Carl Buchholz, Greg George, Flipper Manchester, Paul Bronken and Kevin Kjer who supplied the wood fuels, tent and tables; prepped the site, monitored the fire and manned the grill. To our Magnificent Moms Andrea George, Kim Felton, Kristy Kjer, Carol Chaplin and Dana Buchholtz who ensured that there were plenty of goodies and that everyone was fed.

Finally, to Kelly Higgins for coordinating the event and our clean-up team of parents, Sonia and Robert Rupp. It was a great event that created a wonderful homecoming memory for our students.
