LIVE COVERAGE: Lake Tahoe Summit today on South Shore, with Obama, Harry Reid and others

President Barack Obama will speak at the annual Lake Tahoe Summit on Tahoe's South Shore.

STATELINE, Nev. — Follow along live as the Sierra Sun and Tahoe Daily Tribune news teams cover the 20th annual Lake Tahoe Summit today, Aug. 31.

This year’s event is hosted by Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, and the keynote speaker will be President Barack Obama. A musical performance by The Killers will follow; the entire event is scheduled to take place from 1:30 to 3:45 p.m. or so today at Harveys Outdoor Arena.

At the summit, Obama and other federal and state leaders are expected to announce a variety of funding initiatives, including $29.5 million for hazardous fuels reduction projects to improve forest health and protect life and property from the threat of catastrophic wildfires.
