Man found dead in Lampe Park

A man was found dead in a creek at Lampe Park on Monday morning, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Park rangers found William Murphey Sheerin, 24, of Gardnerville, kneeling face down in the creek. Deputies responded to the park at about 8:21 a.m.

Sheerin’s cause of death is suspected to be drowning. But final cause of death will not be determined until after autopsy and toxicology reports have been completed, according to Sgt. Pat Brooks.

During the ongoing investigation, receipts found from a local store show Sheerin purchased alcohol and cigarettes Sunday night. It is unknown how Sheerin arrived at the park. No obvious trauma was visible and no foul play is suspected at this time.

Anyone who had contact with Sheerin in the last 48 hours is asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at 775-782-9905.
