MontBleu guests donate $18K to Tahoe Fund

Tribune staff report

An $18,116 donation from MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa to Tahoe Fund’s Green Bucks program will help support the nonprofit’s work to restore and enhance Lake Tahoe’s environment.

Presented in front of MontBleu on Tuesday, the donation is courtesy of guests who added a $1 donation onto their room bills.

“Our guests love this incredible lake and the surrounding mountains,” said Steve Ditchkus, the general manager at MontBleu. “We are thankful for their support as together we help to take care of Tahoe through the Green Bucks program.”

Green Bucks is a donation program coordinated by the Tahoe Fund in partnership with the Truckee River Watershed Council. The program helps the organizations meet their missions of pursuing new hiking and biking trails, watershed restoration projects, wildlife protection and other environmental stewardship programs.

“MontBleu has been an early and strong supporter of Green Bucks and the Tahoe Fund,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund. “We are so thankful to their guests for supporting our efforts to make their time in Tahoe even more enjoyable with new bike trails and parks right out the hotel doors.”

Tahoe Fund was created in 2010 and has funded more than a dozen projects around the lake.

On the South Shore, Tahoe Fund donations have helped fund the Van Sickle Bi-State Park, the Rabe Meadow Bike Trail and Asian clam control at Emerald Bay. On the North Shore, donations have helped support restoration of Blackwood Creek and Eagle Rock Trail, Lakeside Bike Trail, the West Shore Bike Trail and beach improvements at Sand Harbor State Park.
