South Lake Tahoe police have released the name of a man who died this weekend after being stabbed during a fight along Pioneer Trail.

Julian Salvador Acevedo, 28, died at Barton Memorial Hospital Saturday morning following a fight near Americana Village Suites, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office and South Lake Tahoe police.

Witnesses reported the incident to passing firefighters about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a weekend statement from police. Family members took Acevedo to Barton Memorial Hospital before police arrived on scene. He died at the hospital despite resuscitation efforts, according to the statement.

Witnesses told police the suspect in the stabbing got into a confrontation with three men while walking westbound along Pioneer Trail. Acevedo was stabbed in the side during the fight and was lying on the ground and bleeding profusely following the altercation, according to the statement.

The suspect fled the area without being identified.

Police describe the man as white, in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and having an average build.

Acevedo’s death is the first homicide investigated by South Lake Tahoe police in 2013. An autopsy was expected to be completed Tuesday, Lt. Brian Williams said. Evidence recovered so far does not indicate the stabbing was gang related, Williams said.
