Remains found near Spooner Summit
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating human skeletal remains found in the area of Kings Canyon east of Spooner Lake.
The remains are being transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Officer for an autopsy, Sgt. Pat Brooks said Monday evening.
They were found about 300 yards north of U.S. 50 near the top of Spooner Summit, in a remote wooded area between the Tahoe Rim Trail and Kings Canyon Road, according to Brooks.
Inmate crews clearing brush in the area found the remains and contacted law enforcement.
The cause of death and the identity of the deceased are unknown at this time, Brooks said.
