Sheriff offers tips for safe holidays
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office offers the following tips for a safe and enjoyable holiday season:
Do not drink and drive.
Do not leave wrapped presents or new purchases in plain sight in parked cars while shopping.
Lock doors and windows when you leave your house and be prepared for winter weather at home and while driving.
Be careful with your mail. The holiday season is when most mail thefts occur. If you are mailing money, checks or gift cards, drop the mail off at your local post office. Pick mail up promptly and report any suspicious activity to the sheriff’s office, local police department or post office.
If you will be out of town, suspend your mail and newspaper delivery or ask a neighbor to pick them up and watch your house while you are gone. If you live in the county, call the El Dorado County Sheriff’s STARs at 530-621-7545 and schedule vacation checks any time of year.
Finally, the holiday season can be a time of loneliness and depression for some people. If you are depressed and need to talk with someone, Community Crisis Services are available at 530-622-3345.
