South Lake Tahoe Bijou Dog Park reopens following cleanup from parvo outbreak

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The City of South Lake Tahoe announced the reopening of the Bijou Dog Park, located off Al Tahoe Boulevard.

The dog park was closed for 10 days starting Jan. 13 as a precautionary measure against an outbreak of canine parvovirus in the community.

A highly contagious viral disease, parvovirus spreads through contact with an infected dog feces. Two dogs, out of 23 confirmed cases, died from the most recent outbreak, as of Friday.

Following a thorough cleaning under recommendation by the South Lake Tahoe Humane Society, the park is now opened again.
