South Lake Tahoe Police Department arrest bank robbery suspect

A South Lake Tahoe police and FBI investigation resulted in the arrest of a suspect in the Friday, July 1, robbery of El Dorado Savings Bank.
“The investigation led to the identification of Gabriel Antonio Evans, a 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident,” according to a South Lake Tahoe Police Department news release. “Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Evans and a search warrant for his residence in the 3000 block of Riverside Avenue. Due to Evans’ past violent criminal history, the SWAT team was employed to make the arrest. Officers, assisted by the FBI, arrested Evans at his residence at 7:45 p.m. this evening [July 1].
“Evans has been taken to the police department for further investigation. He will be booked into the El Dorado County Jail on the charge of robbery.”
According to initial reports from South Lake Tahoe Police Department, around 12:55 p.m. Friday a man walked into the bank located at 1036 Al Tahoe Blvd., and demanded money. The man did not display a weapon and fled from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.
The robbery was the second in three days at Lake Tahoe’s South Shore. An unidentified man reportedly used a handgun to rob the U.S. Bank on Kingsbury Grade Wednesday afternoon, June 29. South Lake Tahoe police do not believe the robberies are connected at this time.
