Stateline water company files for rate hike

STATELINE — Edgewood Water Company has filed an application with the Nevada Public Utilities Commission to raise water and fire protection rates by more than 36 percent.

According to the Dec. 30 filing, the Stateline water service company is seeking to recover the costs of modifications to its treatment plant required by the federal Environmental Protection Agency. Those include ultraviolet light and ozone water treatment plant upgrades.

If approved, the basic monthly base rate for a three-quarter inch line to a home would rise from $30 to $41. There would also be an increase in the metered consumption rates from about $1.80 per thousand gallons to $2.46. The rates are higher for larger service lines, up to $2,098 a month for an eight-inch service pipe.

The higher rates would generate an estimated $195,330 in water service revenue.

Rates would also increase for Edgewood’s private fire protection services by the same 36.68 percent, generating another $155,701 in revenue.

According to the application, parties wishing to intervene in the case or protest the increases must petition to do so by Feb. 3. The PUC has set a 9 a.m. preconference hearing on the application for Feb. 18.
