Tahoe Area Sierra Club will celebrate Lake Tahoe and the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act during its annual fundraiser next week at the Tahoe Stonehenge House.

The event will be held July 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will feature live music, a silent auction, wines from the Placerville-based Boeger Winery, a variety of gourmet food and more.

More than 100 people are expected to attend this year’s event, and ticket sales so far are suggesting a strong turnout.

“Ticket sales are brisk,” said Grace Anderson, chair of the club’s executive committee. “Some of my retail outlets ran out of tickets, and I had to take them another 20 each.”

The Tahoe Stonehenge House, located on top of Echo View Estates, will provide the setting for the event, while Dory Smith and his jazz band provide the music.

Many handmade items will available in the silent auction, along with a pass to Push Fitness Lake Tahoe and an overnight stay at Sorenson’s Resort. An actor will also be portraying John Muir, the man who founded the Sierra Club. Muir died 100 years ago.

Tickets for the event are available from Aspen Hollow Nursery, Lake of the Sky Outfitters, Emerald Bay Physical Therapy, Divided Sky restaurant and from Sierra Club members. They cost $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

Proceeds go to a variety of Tahoe Area Sierra Club needs, including supporting public outreach meetings and hiring technical consultants to comment on public documents, among other things.
