Margaret Moran of Sierra Sun reported that “Poor environmental and weather conditions led Ironman officials on Tuesday to abruptly cancel future Lake Tahoe events, three days after the 2015 triathlon drew thousands of people to the region.”

Incline Village General Improvement District and Incline Village Golf Courses, golfers should “layer up,” “keep your hands warm,” “club up for distance,” “plan for more roll towards the end of the season,” and “keep moving.”

3. Learn about the Sierra region’s snowpack levels, which is said to be at its lowest level in 500 years.

A news release stated that “On April 1, 2015, California Gov. Jerry Brown declared the first-ever mandatory water restrictions throughout the state, while standing on dry ground at 6,800-foot elevation in the Sierra Nevada near Lake Tahoe.”

4. Learn about the West’s sage grouse.

According to Kurt Hildebrand of the Record Courier, “Calling the greater sage grouse ‘the pulse’ of the West’s sage ecosystem, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewel announced … that the bird does not require federal protection. She said a partnership involving ranchers, firefighters conservationists, recreationists and federal officials helped to preserve the bird, calling it the largest conservation effort in American history.”
